It ? What is ?it??? What is nailed to the cross?? According to the Greek text in this verse, it (autos) is the cheirographon, the hand-written certificate of debts.? Isn?t that clear enough?? What Yeshua nailed to the cross (metaphorically) is our debt accounting record, the record of all our sins that condemns us.? Yeshua took away that piece of paper that said, ?You owe.?? But if you read this verse in the NIV, there is a significant change.? The NIV says, ?having canceled the written code with its regulations.?? According to the NIV, the Torah was nailed to the cross, not the debts we accumulated due to disobedience but the regulations themselves!? This mistaken translation (or was it deliberate?) finds its way into popular Greek lexicons too.? Thayer?s Greek Lexicon suggests that Paul applies cheirographon metaphorically for ?the Mosaic law.?? In other words, some Christian theologians and translators simply converted a document that specified our debts into the entire legal system of rules.? That?s like going to traffic court with a speeding ticket and claiming that the ticket in your hand is the equivalent of all traffic regulations, and then telling the judge that none of them are valid.? What do you think the judge is going to say?? The ticket might not be correct but that doesn?t imply that the rules of the road are worthless.? The fact that you hold a ticket in your hand means that the rules do apply.? The only question is whether or not you are guilty of breaking them.
The idea that God instructions are ?nailed to the cross? or discarded is based on ignoring the meaning of cheirographon, the debt certificate.? My traffic ticket is a debt certificate.? It is not a copy of the traffic laws of the state of Florida.? I have the ticket because the laws are in place.? If someone comes into the court and pays the fine for me, I am no longer held liable under the law, but that doesn?t mean the rules went away.? It only means that I didn?t pay the fine!? As long as a debt certificate isn?t equivalent to the legal determinations it stands on, voiding the debt certificate will not erase the legal structure.? And in the Bible, my sin is not the same as the Law that tells me I have sinned.
In the NIV, you are actually reading the interpretation and theological position of the translators.? Unless you could read the Greek, you would never know this isn?t a translation.? Thousands of Christians have been taught that the Law was nailed to the cross when Jesus died.? They have been taught that the Law was replaced by grace and that no Christian has any obligation to the Torah.? How could they know anything different when the translators change the meaning of the verses?? We are called to correct this.? We must take a stand on cheirographon.? The Law, the Torah, matters.? God?s instructions are firmly in place, written so that you and I and all the nations will know how to live.? Grace is insufficient!? Grace is completely sufficient for our redemption, our deliverance, but it is insufficient for instructions for living.? We need God?s instructions in spite of our sins.? And fortunately, He provides them.

AG probes Facebook facial recognition
(CNN) -- Facebook's facial-recognition feature for automatically tagging uploaded photos with the names of those pictured sparked a backlash from privacy advocates. Now it's coming under scrutiny from Connecticut's attorney general, who sent a letter to company officials this week requesting a meeting.
Connecticut Attorney General George Jepsen said he has "deep concerns" about Facebook's choice to make the tagging feature opt-out, not opt-in.
"The potential uses of facial recognition on this scale remain unclear but concerning," Jepsen wrote. "This important privacy issue needs to be addressed promptly. There may be some fairly simple changes that can be implemented to make certain that consumers are fully aware of the implications of 'Tag Suggestions.'"
Facebook first introduced its "Tag Suggestions" tool in December, but it has recently accelerated the feature's worldwide roll-out to the site's 500 million members. Four privacy advocacy groups, including the Washington-based Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), banded together last week and filed a complaint with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. They asked the FTC to require Facebook to cease using facial recognition technology without users' explicit, opt-in consent.
A Facebook representative said the company is in contact with Jepsen's office and is "eager" to explain more about how Tag Suggestions works. However, Facebook is standing behind the tool and its widespread deployment.
"Since last December, we've been gradually rolling out the feature and millions of people have used it to add hundreds of millions of tags," Facebook said in a written statement. "This data, and the fact that we've had almost no user complaints, suggests people are enjoying the feature and are finding it useful."
Facebook members who don't want their name to come up in the suggestions tool can disable it in their "privacy settings" panel. Facebook offers instructions for how to do that in its blog and in its "help" pages. Members can also un-tag themselves from a photo at any time.
But EPIC and other critics say those tools are too difficult to use, and that the onus should be on Facebook to expressly confirm users' consent -- not the other way around.
That issue is also at the heart of Jepsen's gripe.
"In Facebook's desire to promote photo sharing and tagging among its users, it appears to have overlooked a critical component of consumer privacy protection -- an opt-in requiring users to affirmatively consent," Jepsen wrote in his letter.
Government regulators and policymakers are growing increasingly concerned about how tech companies handle user privacy.
Senators Al Franken and Richard Blumenthal introduced legislation this week that would require the makers of mobile software and devices -- like Apple's (AAPL, Fortune 500) iPhone and Google's (GOOG, Fortune 500) Android -- to receive express opt-in consent from users before tracking their locations. ?

Monson video: Cormier’s opponent talks motivation while getting a tattoo
Jeff Monson has always struck me as a little bit off. He's clearly a smart cookie with intense political philosophies, but he marches to the beat of a different drum. The 40-year-old, who once challenged for the UFC heavyweight title, is returning to the big stage to battle Daniel Cormier at Strikeforce in Dallas tomorrow.
It's an intriguing matchup. Monson is a nasty grappler with dangerous submissions and Cormier is an Olympic-level wrestler. What happens if it goes to the ground?
I don't think I'm going to bring anything to the table with my wrestling that he hasn't seen before. But, I hope he does (take it down). It's not really a secret that he's a better wrestler than I am. But, it's a weird thing because once he gets me to the ground, we are in my world," Monson told The Times and Democrat in South Carolina. "I don't care who he is or what he is doing, I'm going to do well on the ground. It certainly interests me as a fighter, we have two different styles that are kind of related. You just never know what is going to happen."
Monson is well-aware that Cormier isn't your typical 7-0 MMA fighter.
He wouldn't have been my first choice to fight coming into Strikeforce. (Cormier) knows what it is like to compete at the highest level. Wrestling is the toughest sport in the world. He has less MMA fights, but he is working with King Mo (Lawal) and Cain Velasquez and feeling those guys in the room.
With the buzz of the tattoo gun, this isn't the easiest video to watch, but it is interesting to hear Monson's motivation to continue fighting.

"Sexist" skirt rule remains in limbo (Reuters)
SINGAPORE, Jun (Reuters) ? Badminton's controversial 'skirt rule' has not been scrapped but is merely in limbo while officials wait for more consultation after initial feedback deemed it sexist, the governing body told Reuters Thursday.
A new Badminton World Federation (BWF) code had required all female players to wear skirts or dresses in major tournaments in order to "to ensure attractive presentation of badminton," but the rule has not been implemented after an outcry.
This week's Singapore Open had been slated as the first tournament to implement the rule, but marketing manager for the BWF's Super Series S.Selvam said a decision was in limbo.
"The rule has been deferred until we get another proposal from the women's commission," Selvam said at the city state's Indoor Stadium.
"There was a lot of feedback from players. But a lot of the feedback actually came from the public saying that it was too sexist," he continued.
The legislation -- that stipulates female players must wear a skirt during competition even if they also wear shorts -- is to be reassessed in December.
"What was decided was to get the women's commission and the ethnic scholarship to gather feedback from manufacturers, players and other interested parties, and to come up with another proposal for the best dress code for female and male players," Selvam added.
